The History
The Langholf building at 225 and 227 S Main St was originally constructed as the Langholf Hotel in 1875 as part of the Langholf Block.
It is one of the oldest buildings in downtown Fort Atkinson. It was operated as a hotel for decades as the Langholf hotel, and later the Farmer’s Hotel. They marketed frugal, overnight stays directed towards farmers who came into town to do business and would need a simple place to stay the night. It later became a boarding house and saloon/bar downstairs.
We wanted to pay tribute to our building’s history, which is where the name “The Langholf” originated. Inside, you’ll also find many decor pieces that hold a story- from old family photos, to vintage pieces scored at our neighbor Five Star Antiques.
The People
Owners Jake and Elena discovered a passion for creating gathering spaces and, after a few years of owning businesses in Whitewater, wanted to create one in Fort Atkinson. They fell in love with the building on their first showing, and opened The Langholf a few months later in October 2023.
Sav worked as a barista at the Sweet Spot when The Langholf was coming together, and they knew she would be the perfect fit as manager. You can likely find one of these three doing some work at the bar on any given day!
